Life has a funny way of throwing surprises our way, and this year, my Rottweiler, Lucille, decided to join in on the unexpected news, she's pregnant! As if my pregnancy journey wasn't enough, we're both on the path to motherhood together.
When I first found out I was expecting, I was overwhelmed with joy and, of course, with a side of anxiety. But I never expected to share this experience with my pretty girl. Lucy had been showing some signs of her own "motherly instincts," but I chalked it up to her playful nature. Little did I know, she had other plans!
The moment I noticed Lucy's changing behavior—nesting, increased affection, and a distinct glow—I realized we were on the same journey. Suddenly, my excitement turned into a whirlwind of preparations, not just for my baby but for her upcoming litter as well. The fear started to kick in when we realized well we have no idea how many she could have. I mean it was between 6 to 12 puppies. Regardless of the litter size, my baby was about to have babies.
Having my Lucy girl by my side has made this journey feel even more special. It's a beautiful reminder of how intertwined our lives can be, two moms preparing for a world filled with love, chaos, and tons of cuddles. I was in awe at how our lives had intertwined. We both anticipated new arrivals and faced the unknown together. Watching her bring her pups into the world was a magical experience I'll never forget. The moment those little furballs took their first breaths, I felt a surge of love that mirrored what I had felt for my baby.
So, here's to sharing this incredible experience with my Lucy girl. Who knew that amidst all the baby planning, I'd also be preparing for a puppy party? Life is certainly more fun when your best friend is in on the adventure!
