TODDLER SURVIVAL MANUAL : ROAD TRIP EDITION

Embarking on a road trip with a one-year-old can be both exhilarating and challenging. While you may envision picturesque moments and unforgettable family memories, the reality often involves meticulous planning, frequent stops, and unexpected surprises. From ensuring a well-stocked diaper bag to strategizing nap times around driving stretches, every mile becomes a delicate balance between adventure and potential chaos. Despite the occasional meltdowns and impromptu pit stops, witnessing the world through the curious eyes of a toddler adds a remarkable joy to the journey, reminding us that the destination is only half the adventure.

I have compiled a small list of items that could be detrimental to your following packing list. We have embarked on a few planned and unplanned road trips to family and for family emergencies. Take note of what you think will fit your next trip. I have added a few links to some items to give you examples of what we had.

First and foremost, the diaper bag! You must leave the house with a well-packed bag, momma.

1. **Diaper Bag Essentials:**

- Wipes

- Diaper rash cream

- Changing pad

Second most important, the feeding essentials! Food / Snacks will always be a must for any trip but a huge help for those long drives. We took plenty of trips with long stretches of road with little to nothing and no where to stop.

2. **Feeding Supplies:**

- Bottles or sippy cups

- Formula or breast milk or regular milk (depending on the childs stage)

- Baby food and snacks

- Bibs and burp cloths

- Healthy snacks for both the child and adults

- Water and juice boxes

- Cooler or insulated bag to keep perishable items fresh ( this is a must! Thank me later momma)

Next, some comfort/entertainment for baby/toddler! It's easy for us adults to simply look out the window and enjoy the scenery, but tiny humans are not so easily entertained, so let's pack for those moments when baby is not having fun or enjoying the scenery like we are.

3. **Comfort Items:** // **Entertainment:**

- Favorite stuffed animals or toys

- Blankets or swaddles

- Pacifiers or comfort objects

- Books

- Interactive toys or musical toys

Now, let's talk safety and first aid! Momma, we must always be prepared for anything on these trips, so let's see what I had on our packing list.

4. **Safety Gear:** // **First Aid Kit:**

- Car seat appropriate for the child's age and size

- Sunshade for car windows (invest in one it will come in so handy)

- Baby mirror to keep an eye on the child while driving ( keep that piece of mind momma and always have eyes on baby)

- Infant pain reliever (if approved by pediatrician)

- Band-Aids

- Antiseptic wipes

- Baby sunscreen

- Antibiotic ointment

- Sterile gauze pads

Last but certainly not least, PATIENCE! This trip can be stressful and too much to wrap your head around but momma take a deep breath! There will be rest stops. You will most definitely stop to stretch out and give baby some fresh air. ( maybe more than you think/expect) I promise it will so worth it to go thru the journey as a family. Oh! and do not forget your camera! Capture the precious and not so precious moments of this journey mom. When it is all said and done you will look back and cherish the captured beauty!

5.**Patience and Flexibility:**

- Perhaps the most essential items of all! Road trips with little ones can be unpredictable, so maintaining a positive attitude and being adaptable to plan changes will make the journey smoother for everyone involved.

Okay, momma, you're ready to pack for your tiny human. Feel free to come back to the list and add or take away what you think is best for your little one and the trip you take.

Leave a comment and let me know if I forgot something or if you find an item that I can add to my list. Happy and safe travels momma!
